How trained are the peer-counsellors / psychologists?

The lived experience of persons with limb loss or difference is fundamental to effective peer-counselling and peer-support, this is complimented through training of our peer-counselling teams by local qualified psychologists. They develop training regimes taking into account the core tenets of counselling, local context, educational experience and the lived experience of the candidates to be trained.

After initial training peer-counsellors develop their skills vocationally, working with and learning from more experienced peer-counsellors delivering in-person peer-counselling. This is coupled with ongoing supervisions sessions with psychologists who develop a space for peer-learning and discussion to help learn from individual experiences in a shared space.

The psychologists that we work with presently are qualified either in the country they work or through academic institutions in Europe. All have experience of working and teaching on mental health in Europe too.
