No. Prosthetic legs comprise modular components, including a socket, a knee, a foot, and a foot shell with various connecting adaptors and pylons. Donated legs are dismantled by professional prosthetists either in a donor clinic or in our workshop in Bristol. These components are then run through quality control and refurbished. Then, on a needs basis, our partner centres in sub-Saharan will request a stock list of varying quantities of components, which will be shipped to these clinics and combined into a new leg based on the end user’s requirements. This way, the one-leg donation can help up to 5 people.
