Protection from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation During COVID-19
All Topics
This checklist has been developed by the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) as guidance to put necessary controls and procedures in place to protect service users, beneficiaries of aid, and vulnerable people from sexual abuse and exploitation (PSEA)
It’s very important to include SEA in your organisation’s safeguarding procedures, and lots of information and resources can be found on the IASC’s website.
The full checklist is available here.
Key items to consider are:
- Regularly share clear messaging on PSEA, e.g. that no sexual or other favours can be requested in exchange for assistance, sexual activity with children (anyone under 18) in all circumstances constitutes abuse, and information on how to report.
- Tailor messaging to most at-risk groups, e.g. children, women, people with disabilities
- Make sure you have safe and accessible reporting and referral mechanisms
- Develop a Code of Conduct that is signed by all staff and volunteers
- Make sure all staff and volunteers complete PSEA training
