The situation

Across sub-Saharan, millions of people live with limb loss, yet most have no access to prosthetic limbs. In Ghana and Tanzania, amputees are often excluded from education, employment, and everyday life, stripped of their independence and dignity. At the same time, thousands of high-quality, reusable prosthetic legs are thrown away each year in the UK, EU, US, and Canada.

In 2026, we aim to recover, restore, and deliver 1,000 of these limbs to our trusted partners in Ghana and Tanzania, providing mobility, opportunity, and hope where it’s most needed.

The solution

STAND recovers prosthetic legs that would otherwise be discarded and refurbishes them through our team of skilled specialists. These restored limbs are then delivered to trusted clinics across sub-Saharan Africa.

This appeal will help fund the delivery of 1,000 prosthetic legs to our partners in Ghana and Tanzania. Each recipient receives a properly fitted limb, physiotherapy, and ongoing emotional support, ensuring lasting mobility, inclusion, and transformation.

Collect
We collect leg components all over the world, including UK, Europe, USA, Canada and Australia.

These legs still have the power to change lives, so our work prevents these valuable components going to landfill.

Send
We ship them to our partners to Ghana and Tanzania, ready to be fitted to people with limb differences.
