STAND is proud to announce a new formal NGO partnership with our old friends, Nav’Solidaire. This collaboration marks a big step forward to ensure more amputees in sub-Saharan Africa have access to high-quality prosthetic legs donated from Europe and beyond.
There is a great need to scale up impact among NGOs, working together rather than competing. The partnership will allow STAND and Nav to streamline logistics, reduce costs and reduce environmental impact.
How we stand together
A great partnership works when each side is playing to their strengths. Here is how we stand together:
Nav Solidaire does:
- Collection: All high quality prosthetic legs collected by Nav and STAND will go to Nav’s workshop in Normandy, France.
- Leg refurbishment: Nav will mobilise their army of dedicated volunteers, so every component will be meticulously cleaned and visually inspected.
- Logistics: All legs will be shipped from Nav’s workshop. Either on a pallet through freight services, or for legs bound for west Africa, through Nav’s “scenic route” using sailboats.
STAND does:
- Leg collection: STAND will still manage leg collection across our networks.
- Building clinical capacity: So the legs can be fitted at the centres across sub-Saharan Africa, it’s important that STAND continues its work in ensuring prosthetists have the right skills and tools.
- Holistic rehabilitation: Recovery doesn’t end at the leg fitting, so STAND will continue to support counselling services and community groups, helping people with limb differences thrive.

Tom Williams OBE, Founder of STAND:
“We have been friends with Nav’Solidaire for a while, so it seemed right that we work together more rather than duplicate efforts. This partnership recognises their strength in people power, logistics and sailing, and STAND’s reach and network across sub-Saharan Africa”
Why this partnership matters
By working in tandem, we aim to deliver record-breaking numbers of components to those who need them most. It will importantly reduce both our costs, as we aren’t duplicating efforts from two different locations. We can also pool together resources needed for component refurbishment and in bulk sending legs from one location.
In these uncertain times, when we share the load, both organisations can go much further.
Antoine Michel, President of Nav’Solidaire:
“Being an amputee myself, I founded Nav’Solidaire with close friends to help people like me who don’t have access to the same care. It’s great to have friends across the Channel who share the same mission. We have the perfect workshop to scale our efforts, so this partnership was an easy decision!”
