A Tribute to Luca Falcon: A Life of Purpose on the Open Road

April 9, 2024
Luca with friends at the OTC, Ghana a few months prior to his passing.

We are deeply saddened to share the news of Luca Falcon’s tragic passing at the age of 35, following a collision with a truck in Angola while he was on a motorcycle journey to South Africa on the 3rd of March 2024. Luca, who had lost a leg in an accident in 2016, transformed his personal adversity into a mission of compassion and support for others facing similar challenges. Alongside his wife, Giulia, they co-founded the non-profit organisation ‘Karma on the Road’. This initiative has been a beacon of hope, providing support and resources to build prosthetic limbs for amputees living in sub-Saharan Africa.

Luca and Giulia have been close friends for many years with our organisation. They have dedicated themselves to raising awareness, fundraising, and rescuing unwanted prosthetic limbs to support our shared cause. Luca’s loss is not just a personal tragedy for his family and friends but a significant loss to our community and the broader mission we all serve.

Reflecting on Luca’s remarkable journey and spirit, Tom, expressed his admiration and gratitude: “Seeing individuals like Luca rise above their personal challenges to help others has always been incredibly inspiring to me. Despite the adversity Luca faced after his accident in 2016, he turned it into a source of strength and inspiration for many. His legacy of kindness, resilience, and dedication to making a difference in the lives of others will live on.”

Luca’s life story is a powerful reminder of the impact one person can have on the world. His adventures, particularly his passion for travelling by motorcycle, were about seeking personal freedom and spreading a message of hope and solidarity. He and Giulia’s efforts through Karma on the Road have touched many lives, showcasing the profound difference compassion and action can make.

As we remember Luca, we are reminded of the importance of our work and the positive impact we can have on the lives of individuals with limb differences across sub-Saharan Africa. Luca’s contributions to our cause and his indomitable spirit will forever be a part of our mission. We extend our deepest condolences to Giulia, his family, and everyone whose life was bettered by knowing him. Luca Falcon will be deeply missed, but his spirit and the change he helped create will endure.

About the author

Name: Tom Williams

My passion? Ensuring no prosthetic leg goes unused. I’m dedicated to collecting, refurbishing, and sending these vital pieces of technology to our partners in Africa, where they make a world of difference. When I’m not immersed in this mission at STAND, I’m often found outdoors, embracing nature. I love long walks in any season, camping under the stars, and enjoying the serenity of the great outdoors. My evenings often involve a unique hobby – maintaining and repairing old pinball machines. This blend of precision and nostalgia keeps me engaged and always learning. This fusion of dedication to my work and my love for nature and tinkering drives me every day, both at STAND and beyond.
