Harnessing Data for Impact: Legs4Africa’s Collaboration with Dashworx

November 28, 2023

Empowering Decisions with Data Insights

At Legs4Africa, our mission has always been about making a tangible, positive impact in the lives of amputees across Africa. We’ve taken a significant leap forward in this journey, thanks to our recent collaboration with Dashworx. This partnership has revolutionised how we visualise and interpret our data, allowing us to see the real-time impact of our efforts and make more informed decisions.

The Power of Logistics Dashboard

One of the key innovations is our Logistics Dashboard. It’s a game-changer, providing a comprehensive view of the journey of prosthetic leg components from around the globe to our doors. This dashboard not only tracks the volume of donations from prosthetic clinics and individuals but also details the associated costs. This visibility is crucial, as it helps us manage resources more effectively and ensures that we’re maximizing every donation we receive.

Understanding Costs and Distribution

Our new dashboards don’t just track incoming donations. They also give us a clear picture of outgoing components, detailing their destinations across different countries and partner mobility centres. This includes insights into shipping methods and the various costs involved, from freight to less predictable expenses like customs fees at the destination. Such comprehensive data empowers us to optimise our distribution strategies and reduce overheads.

Impact Dashboard: Measuring Real Change

Dashworx has also developed an Impact Dashboard, a tool that helps us measure the real change we’re making with our partners. This includes ‘Feet on the Ground’, a feature that provides insights into the number of prosthetic legs fitted at each partner centre, alongside demographic breakdowns and reasons for amputation. This data helps us identify trends and focus our efforts where they’re needed most. We’re committed to transparency and affordability in our services, and this dashboard is a testament to that commitment.

Patient Satisfaction and Quality of Life

At the heart of our mission is the well-being of the patients we serve. To gauge this, we’ve implemented an automated text message system that gathers feedback 24 hours and six months post-service. This direct line of feedback informs us about patient satisfaction and the long-term impact on their quality of life. It’s a step towards a more nuanced understanding of our impact and guides us in refining our services.

Partnering with African Centers

Dashworx hasn’t just empowered Legs4Africa; they’ve extended their expertise to support our partners across Africa. Each Rehabilitation Centre now has access to a live dashboard that offer snapshots of patient volumes, service quality, and improvements in patients’ lives post-prosthesis fitting. This shared data resource fosters a stronger, more cohesive network of support and care.

Aligning Stakeholders to Our Vision

Dashworx has helped us set and track goals with our stakeholders and partners in Africa. These goals, visualised through intuitive dashboards, motivate, encourage, and align all involved with the Legs4Africa vision. They’re not just metrics; they’re milestones on our shared journey to make a difference.

Looking Ahead

This collaboration with Dashworx is just the beginning. We recognise that there’s more work to be done in measuring and maximising our impact. By harnessing the power of data, we’re not only improving our operations but also deepening our understanding of the needs and successes of those we serve. Together, we’re stepping into a future where every donation, every effort, and every prosthetic leg brings us closer to a world where physical mobility is accessible to all.

At Legs4Africa, every step forward is a step towards a more inclusive world. Join us on this journey – your support, whether as a donor, volunteer, or advocate, is what keeps us moving forward.

Name: Tom Williams

My passion? Ensuring no prosthetic leg goes unused. I’m dedicated to collecting, refurbishing, and sending these vital pieces of technology to our partners in Africa, where they make a world of difference. When I’m not immersed in this mission at STAND, I’m often found outdoors, embracing nature. I love long walks in any season, camping under the stars, and enjoying the serenity of the great outdoors. My evenings often involve a unique hobby – maintaining and repairing old pinball machines. This blend of precision and nostalgia keeps me engaged and always learning. This fusion of dedication to my work and my love for nature and tinkering drives me every day, both at STAND and beyond.
