Exploring New Horizons: Comprehensive Community-Based Rehabilitation in Tanzania (CCBRT)

June 14, 2023

At Legs4Africa (L4A), we’re always on the hunt for potential partners who share our vision of providing affordable, quality prosthetics to amputees. This relentless search recently led us to the bustling city of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, where we had the opportunity to visit the Comprehensive Community-Based Rehabilitation in Tanzania (CCBRT) facility. We were left awe-struck by the extraordinary work they are doing and the potential they possess for scaling their services with the right support.

Impressive Operations and Potentials

CCBRT’s facility was large, immaculate, and well-organized, a testament to the level of care and professionalism they bring to their services. They follow modern lean management techniques and host daily huddles to coordinate activities and address issues, ensuring that their services run as smoothly and efficiently as possible.

CCBRT has the potential to serve these individuals, but due to changing organization priorities from development to emergency response in Tanzania the previous patner pulled out its support from Tanzania.

At L4A, we believe that strong partnerships are the bedrock of our mission. Our encounter with CCBRT has reinforced this belief, and we are eager to explore this potential collaboration further.

We’ll keep you posted on any future developments and look forward to sharing our journey with you as we strive to help more amputees regain their freedom and dignity.

The potential collaboration with CCBRT signifies a hopeful future where more amputees can access affordable, quality prosthetics. While we’re thrilled about the prospects of this partnership, we also understand that we have a long road ahead. But as always, we’re ready to embrace the challenge and continue to champion the rights and needs of amputees in Africa.

Stay tuned to our blog for more updates on our ongoing projects and potential collaborations like this one.

NB: This post is based on a recent visit and assessment of CCBRT by Tom Williams and Phil Tunstall from L4A on 06/06/2023.

My passion? Ensuring no prosthetic leg goes unused. I’m dedicated to collecting, refurbishing, and sending these vital pieces of technology to our partners in Africa, where they make a world of difference. When I’m not immersed in this mission at STAND, I’m often found outdoors, embracing nature. I love long walks in any season, camping under the stars, and enjoying the serenity of the great outdoors. My evenings often involve a unique hobby – maintaining and repairing old pinball machines. This blend of precision and nostalgia keeps me engaged and always learning. This fusion of dedication to my work and my love for nature and tinkering drives me every day, both at STAND and beyond.
