Who are Legs4Africa

Legs4Africa is the charity that gets people walking again in sub-Saharan Africa. We collect prosthetic legs destined for landfill, dismantle them into parts and then ship them over to partner hospitals across sub-Saharan Africa. The parts are then used to build or repair legs for people who otherwise may never walk again. Since 2014, we have sent enough parts to build over 10,000 prosthetic legs. Our work also focuses on aiding emotional rehabilitation for amputees by working with community groups and sharing online resources and improving prosthetic and orthotics services in these countries by funding training for prosthetists and funding upgrades for orthopaedic workshops.”

We are an equal opportunities employer. We particularly encourage applications from people living with disabilities, gender variant individuals and people from black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds, as these groups are currently under-represented in the charity sector.

About the author

Name: Tom Williams

My passion? Ensuring no prosthetic leg goes unused. I’m dedicated to collecting, refurbishing, and sending these vital pieces of technology to our partners in Africa, where they make a world of difference. When I’m not immersed in this mission at STAND, I’m often found outdoors, embracing nature. I love long walks in any season, camping under the stars, and enjoying the serenity of the great outdoors. My evenings often involve a unique hobby – maintaining and repairing old pinball machines. This blend of precision and nostalgia keeps me engaged and always learning. This fusion of dedication to my work and my love for nature and tinkering drives me every day, both at STAND and beyond.
