TATCOT Bursaries

May 25, 2021

Molline, Ophia, Winnie and Judith are continuing to thrive at TATCOT, having recently completed their end of module exams. Last term they studied a range of modules including pathology, biomechanics, anatomy and physiology of the ankle, and workshop management, as well as a practical module in syme prosthesis which culminated in a final examination in which they successfully fitted a syme disarticulation patient with the finished open panel prosthesis. Having received glowing results in their examinations, they have now moved onto studying transtibial prosthesis.

“Studying orthopedic technology in lower limb prosthetics at Tanzania Training Centre for Orthopedic Technology has been one of the best experiences that has ever happened to us. We are thrilled and getting ready to go and empower more individuals that have suffered limb loss.”

We are also delighted to say that TATCOT have also provided the four students with new prostheses, which have been fitted by final year students as part of their projects. The ladies are currently doing gait training and enjoying the increased comfort and mobility of their updated prosthetic legs. Here is Molline enjoying the increased flexibility of her sleek new limbs as she works on her latest project:

Stay tuned for further updates! And in the meantime please enjoy this video the students contributed to celebrate International Women’s Day!

Name: Stefanie

I'm Stefanie and I manage STAND's Rehab Centre Upgrade and Training projects - working with our partners in orthopedic workshops in sub-Saharan Africa to get what they need for their orthopedic workshops to provide a great service, and providing grants and scholarships for partners and P&O apprentices to access qualifications and extra skills. What I love most about my job is connecting with so many fantastic, passionate people around Africa and the world and learning something new every day. When my laptop’s closed, I’ll crack out some movie scores on the piano, go sing some showtunes or enjoy the weird and wonderful live theatre of Bristol.
