We are in an exciting period of transition with our logistics processes, and we have collaborated to explore better ways of shipping components and design new processes for tracking deliveries and monitoring stock levels of our partner centres. In the future we’re aiming to switch from cardboard boxes to barrels which will allow us to send more parts at a time and better guarantee their safety en route.

Our most recent delivery to our 10 focus centres consisted mainly of orthotic materials such as shoes, with silicone liners donated by Opcare and a selection of knees. For centres such as Ortho-Promed in Rwanda who are focusing on their orthopaedic services while prosthetic client numbers are low, this will be a huge help for the business and make a significant difference to those with limb differences in the community.
These 10 centres are also in the process of completing a stock take so we can base future deliveries on their capacity and make the process really smooth and efficient.
Following these stock takes, and a recent inventory of the parts in our own workshop, we will aim next to clear the workshop once again with a big delivery of components. We are also very excited to be ready to make our first-ever delivery from our ambassadors in Canada; a pallet of 4 boxes collected from Canadian limb centres which will be shipped to the OTC in Ghana!
Name: Stefanie
I'm Stefanie and I manage STAND's Rehab Centre Upgrade and Training projects - working with our partners in orthopedic workshops in sub-Saharan Africa to get what they need for their orthopedic workshops to provide a great service, and providing grants and scholarships for partners and P&O apprentices to access qualifications and extra skills. What I love most about my job is connecting with so many fantastic, passionate people around Africa and the world and learning something new every day. When my laptop’s closed, I’ll crack out some movie scores on the piano, go sing some showtunes or enjoy the weird and wonderful live theatre of Bristol.
