Children are the future leaders of tomorrow…

…so we need to take care of them. Ebrima Krubally (Isk to his friends) is a really valued member of the Legs4Africa team. Working in the Rehabilitation Centre in Banjul, Gambia, he is a qualified Orthopaedic Technologist and his job is to ensure that the component legs which Legs4Africa send to the Centre are reassembled so they fit each recipient comfortably. This involves the initial fitting and subsequent ongoing after-care. Isk brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise. Before working at the Centre, he was a volunteer in the 1990’s with the Red Cross working for their Polio Rehabilitation Project where he first worked with amputees. Since then he has travelled widely, both in Africa and South America, adding to his qualifications and knowledge.

As a family man, Isk says his greatest satisfaction is seeing the impact a prosthetic leg has on the people he deals with; especially the children whose lives are transformed by being independent, no longer having to be pushed around and able to play with their friends. Of course, the need for prosthetics legs far outweighs the supply and when asked what his thoughts on this were, he said ‘I would ask the parents of amputees to think about the feelings both they and their children had when their children could walk, play and live again. We want children and parents here to have the same feelings’.

Most importantly Isk says ‘children are the future leaders of tomorrow; without a leg it’s difficult for them to grow and develop’.

Name: SuePownall

Hi, I’m Sue! I answer all your queries, coordinating generous leg donors from around the globe with our partners in Africa and giving people who need a prosthetic leg the details of our partners at rehabilitation centres in sub Saharan Africa that will help them. Apparently, I’ve got a keen eye for detail so I also try to catch any typos and spruce up our blogs. When I’m not wielding my admin wand, you’ll find me lost in a good book, doodling away, getting crafty with some sewing, soaking up some ballet or theatre, or just chatting and laughing with my friends. And yes, I’m often the one bringing the biscuits – because who doesn’t love a good biscuit?
