Charlie is one of Legs4Africa’s Legends

April 12, 2019

When he was only 9 months old his family had to face the devastating news that Charlie had been diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma which is a rare form of bone cancer.  After months of intensive chemotherapy he recovered but his treatment had involved the removal of the diseased bone and soft tissue and, when he was old enough, he was fitted with a prosthetic leg. Now Charlie is 9 years old and a very sporty young man, his favourite sport being football both mainstream and for England Amputee Juniors.

As every parent knows, children grow at an alarming rate so Charlie had a lot of outgrown legs!  Luckily for Legs4Africa, his parents contacted us and offered us the legs which Charlie had outgrown and no longer wanted.  We will forward them on to the Orthopaedic Training Centre in Ghana where they will benefit a number of children, giving them the same opportunities as Charlie to play sports with their friends again.

The kindness of donors like Charlie and his family cannot be underestimated – the impact these legs will have on the futures of those children in Africa is life changing.

Name: SuePownall

Hi, I’m Sue! I answer all your queries, coordinating generous leg donors from around the globe with our partners in Africa and giving people who need a prosthetic leg the details of our partners at rehabilitation centres in sub Saharan Africa that will help them. Apparently, I’ve got a keen eye for detail so I also try to catch any typos and spruce up our blogs. When I’m not wielding my admin wand, you’ll find me lost in a good book, doodling away, getting crafty with some sewing, soaking up some ballet or theatre, or just chatting and laughing with my friends. And yes, I’m often the one bringing the biscuits – because who doesn’t love a good biscuit?

Our Docu-series will inspire you...
